Parties not sure of single majority
12/25/2008 10:15:02 PM
Early Times Reporter
Jammu, Dec 25- After the polling in 21 constituencies yesterday senior leaders of various political parties are of the opinion that Jammu and Kashmir is in for another spell of coalition rule.
General Secretary, Panthers Party, Harsh Dev Singh, today said "I do not think any party will get absolute majority. It my again be a ‘kichri sarkaar’ in the state."
The BJP Chief Ashok Khajuria, who seemed to be jubilant over yesterday's polling, said "our candidates seem to have fared well. I too think the state will have a coalition Government". Though the National Conference President, Omar Abdullah, said yesterday that "we will be able to form the Government" indications are that the National Conference leadership too is engaged in finding out partners in forming the Government.
The opinion in the Congress circles is similar to the one dished out by the Panthers Party and the BJP, despite former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad's assertion that the Congress will form the Government on its own. The PDP is the only party that has maintained silence over the issue. Its leadership is waiting for the results to come out and in case it gets more than 20 seats it is likely to go in for a hard bargain with the Congress. Reliable reports said that in case the Congress was not able to repeat its 2002 performance the PDP may not like to repeat the 2002 experiment when it agreed to share power with the Congress with a provision of changing the guard after three years.
In case the PDP-Congress coalition failed to emerge either it could be Congress-NC coalition or NC led Government with the outside support from the BJP.
