Bhim says polls rigged in Jammu, Samba
12/25/2008 10:15:41 PM
Early Times Reporter
Jammu, Dec 25- Alleging massive rigging by the administration in Samba and Jammu districts, which went to polls on the 7th and final phase of the poll here yesterday, the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Chief Prof Bhim Singh has demanded countermanding of these polls and ordering fresh poll under the direct control and supervision of the Election Commission and without participation of local administration.
In a statement issued here today Prof Singh said that his party shall resort to Dharna and demonstration in front of the office of Election Commission of India in New Delhi on 27, if its demand was not met.
He said the last phase of Assembly election demonstrated a shameful and corrupt face of administration by resorting to massive rigging from 15% to 50% particularly in the districts of Samba and Jammu. There was sudden increase in the poll percentage, he said and added that even the percentage of votes polled as reported by the local press was much lower.
Prof Singh said that the poll percentage given out by the Information Department to the press was totally different to that given by the Divisional Commissioner in the Press Conference.
The Divisional Commissioner recorded statement to the media repeatedly stated that the figures he was releasing to the Press shall increase from two to five percent. This was at about 8.30 P.M. when all the polling figures had reached the electoral office.
The Divisional Commissioner gave the percentage that Jammu West had polled 77%, RS Pura 80%, Samba 73% and like that. This shows that the presiding officers at the behest of administration manipulated EVMs and naturally Congress was key player in this shameful rigging process.
All the Returning Officers with Criminal and malafide intentions did not provide the list of serial numbers of Balloting Units and Control Units polling station wise before the polling to the contesting candidates, he said, adding that the Election Commission had clearly instructed to provide such details but the ROs defied the EC orders, so that if they fail in rigging any machine they could easily replace the same with other rigged one machines, Bhim alleged in his statement.
He said nearly 56,000 genuine and legitimate voters were denied their right to franchise in Jammu and Samba districts. Several hundred voters who were holding EPIC cards, had their names duly printed in the voters list were thrown out by the Presiding officers who claimed that their names were crossed with red ink by the District Electoral Officer. This was done to keep the genuine voters out to leave space for the presiding officers to rig the election. There was no statement of deletions as required under the Registration of Electors rules.
‘The last phase in Jammu region has been vitiated with absolute illegality as such the sanctity of the elections has been lost’, the statement added.
