KVK organises training programme on natural farming

REASI, Dec 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised training programme on natural farming here today at Gunn village in Reasi distt. of J&K which was actively attended by a number of women farmers of the area.
The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The programme was organised to educate and train the women farmers on natural farming and guide them on the various techniques required in natural farming so that they can start entrepreneurship in natural farming. Sr.Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the importance of natural farming in present era.
He said that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and the farmers can generate more income by producing the safe and healthy food through natural farming. He said that for a healthy society, quality and healthy food is required and natural farming can play a significant role for the production of safe and healthy food. He informed that it is beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment. He demonstrated the preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya, fermented butter milk, cow urine, Dasharpani and also elaborated the practices of mulching, Acchadana and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming. He narrated that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He stressed on the community based approach required for natural farming. He also discussed on the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. He stated that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. He also discussed on Atam Nirbar Krishi and emphasised on the adoption of natural farming for more returns. A field visit was also arranged during which the farmers were guided on the maintenance of organic matter in the soil. During the programme various quarries were raised by the participants which were answered in a scientific way by the KVK scientist. The women farmers thanked KVK, Reasi for organizing this useful programme. Dr. Banarsi Lal proposed the formal vote of thanks.
