| POWER WOES | | Guv sanctions Rs 1 Cr for replacing damaged meters | | EarlY Times Report Jammu, Dec: 25: To provide respite to the power consumers, Governor, N N Vohra, today approved a revolving fund of Rs 1 crore in favour of the Power Development Department for procuring and replacing the damaged meters in the Jammu Division. According to a decision, taken by the Governor during his interaction with the Jammu Chamber of Industries and Commerce, here this morning, the consumers will be charged the cost of the replaced meters in three installments and not in one go. As per the standing instructions, the consumers had to get their damaged meters installed at their own expense. The Governor also reviewed the supply position of power to the domestic consumers and the industrial sector. He was apprised that no curtailment is being affected to the metered consumers while the industrial sector was getting uninterrupted power supply for 16 hours. The meeting, attended by the representatives of the Chamber and senior officers of the Finance, Industries and Power Development Departments, took several decisions on the issues raised by the Chamber which, interalia, related to the streamlining of power supply and its distribution; implementation of the Five-Point Economic Package; round-the-clock functioning of the Lakhanur Toll Plaza; Single Window Clearance System for the smooth flow of goods carriers; extension in VAT Audit Returns; exemption at Service Tax on Work Contracts etc. The Governor discussed each of the issues raised in the meeting in detail and gave on-the-spot instructions for appropriate examination and resolution, on most immediate basis, at the appropriate levels. He also gave directions for expediting the procedure of Single Window Clearances at Lakhanpur, the entry point to the State, to ease congestion of goods-carriers entering into the State. The meeting was apprised that the Jammu and Kashmir State was one of the very few Value Added Tax (VAT) compliant States in the country. Vohra also reviewed the Cross-LoC trade and the impending return visit of the traders' representatives from Jammu and Kashmir to Pak-occupied-Kashmir. The President, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Mr Ram Sahai, informed the Governor that they were awaiting clearance from the PoK Administration for clearance of their return visit to Muzaffarabad. Earlier, Mr Sahai, on behalf of his organisation, complimented the Governor for ensuring peaceful conduct of the Elections and his endeavours in heralding peace and tranquility in the State.
