| MIER hosts international confab on quality education | | | EarlY Times Report Jammu- Dec 26- A 3-day International Conference on “Quality Assurance in Educational Research” organized by Model Institute of Educational Research in collaboration with the All India Association for Educational Research (AIAER) commenced here today Prof. (Dr.) M.A. Siddique, Chairperson National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) who was the Chief Guest on this occasion inaugurated the conference. Dr. Arun Gupta congratulating the organizers, said that the present conference was one of such attempt initiated by the MIER in collaboration with AIAER to provide a platform for critical analysis on different aspects of knowledge creation through educational research which would not only allow educational planners, practitioners and researchers to transform and transcend the available body of knowledge on educational researches but would provide important guidelines to enable decision makers to deal with the issues prevalent at different levels of education with regards to learners, teachers, the teaching-learning process and management of education in different social, economic and cultural contexts. In his key note address, Dr. Siddique, greatly appreciated the efforts made by AIAER and MIER to discuss a significant topic related to quality assurance in educational research as the improvement of the educational system in the country eventually will depend upon the valuable inputs from research for its transformation. Further strengthening of research and training of scholars are essential for the creation of a knowledge base, which will go a long way for effective individual, national and global development in the 21st century. He also highlighted the initiatives taken by the NCTE towards promotion of educational research. Dr. Ved Prakash, Vice Chancellor NUEPA, in his presidential remarks congratulated MIER and AIAER for organizing the conference on a very pertinent theme and for involving researchers and practitioners from diverse backgrounds to deliberate on quality issues in educational research. Thanking the Chief Guest and distinguished guests and delegates, Dr. S.B Mohanty, General Secretary AIAER lauded the efforts initiated by them to participate in the conference and provide a successful beginning to it. He also thanked the host institution for making excellent arrangements for the delegates and guests. Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Malhotra, President AIAER presented the opening remarks about the conference and also introduced the chief guest to the august gathering. He highlighted the relevance of the theme of the conference and urged all the participants to contribute towards enhancing the quality of educational research in the country. He stressed on the need for preparing a road map for research studies so as to delve into specialized areas of research in education. Introductory remarks to the conference were given by Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER, who stressed the need for quality research as it has repercussions on the quality of education at different levels as on the one hand the availability of a large number of researches in education appears very encouraging and cheering, on the other, quality of research studies has been seriously questioned with respect to their utility, applicability, profundity, implications and contribution to the improvement in the theory and practice of education. She also enlightened the participants about the objectives of the conference and gave details of the various technical sessions and key note address. After the inaugural session the Prof. M.B Buch Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof. Ved Prakash, Vice Chancellor NUEPA who presented a comprehensive discourse on the topic ‘Trends in Growth and Financing of Higher Education in India’ wherein he discussed the challenges faced by the higher education system in India. He also provided an overview of the trends in the expansion of higher education and stressed on the formation of right policies concerning finance and resource generation for boosting its growth. The conference which is being held at MIER College of Education, Jammu has about 100 delegates from about 20 states of the country and abroad participating in it. It is spread over 16 technical sessions in which educationists and researchers shall be presenting papers on diverse themes related to the topic.
