Murder of Azad’s childhood friend
HC directs AAG to file challan by Dec 30

Jammu, Dec 26- In a much publicized murder case of Ghulam Mohammed Rather, NC leader and Sarpanch, Justice Mohammed Yaqoob Mir of J&K High Court Jammu directed Additional Advocate General (AAG) that he shall file the requisite report on December 30, 2008. Court observed that in terms of the order December 19, 2008 VK Chopra Additional Advocate General was required to file latest report regarding stage and status of investigation and also indicate what remains to be investigated due to which the challan cannot be produced against the arrested persons. The AAG submitted that he would not collect the latest report due to present elections and prevailing circumstances, however, assured that the challan against arrested accused persons will be presented before the concerned Court before December 29, 2008.
In the petition it has been submitted that the deceased Ghulam Mohammed Rather happened to be childhood friend and class fellow of Ex-Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi was done to death under a well planned conspiracy hatched by one Abdul Rashid brother-in-law of Mohammed Sharief Naiz former power minister, his nephew Fiaz Mohammed and Mohammed Younis along with others under the alleged guidance of Mohammed Sharief Niaz. The then Chief Minister when informed about the whole episode by a delegation of the people of the area headed by ex-MLC Mohammed Iqbal Bhat at his residence on February 5, 2007, immediately instructed IGP Crime and Railways on telephone to look into the matter seriously and not to spare any one whosoever influential he may be.
The deceased having his political affiliation with National Conference had not died due to fall of the bridge but was alleged to have been murdered, the petitioner had said and had sought investigation of the case through CBI or team of Crime Branch headed by an Officer not below the rank of DIG.
