| 54TH National School Games Cricket Championship for Girls concludes | | | EarlY TImes Report JAMMU DECEMBER 27- The 54th National Schools Games Cricket Girls under 19 years concluded here this afternoon. The Advisor to Governor Dr. S. S. Bloeria was the Chief Guest on the closing ceremony held at M. A. Stadium Jammu. The Championship trophy was lifted by Uttar Pradesh team by defeating Maharashtra by 97 runs. Utter Pradesh team scored 185 for seven wickets in 400verg where as Maharashtra team was all out for 80 runs only. J&K team has bagged 3rd position by defeating Madhya Pradesh in a semi-final match. In all fifteen teams from 14 states of the country participated in the championship. These states include Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhatisgarh, Delhi, Gujrat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orrisa, Punjab Utter Pradesh, Utterakhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education, Mr. Khazir Mohammad Wani and Secretary Education Mr. G. A. Peer were also present at the closing ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khazir Mohammad Wani thanked the School Games Federation of India for providing an opportunity to J&K to host 54th National School Games Cricket Girls under 19 years adding that the mega event has provided a vast exposure to the players of the state. He hoped that by the successful completion of the national sports events, the J&K has fully come up to the expectations of the federation. He said J&K has recently organized Santosh trophy successfully and the arrangements made by the J&K Youth Services and Sports department and J&K State Sports Council were very satisfactory which apply demonstrates that J&K State has a capacity to host National and Inter-national Sports events. He said that expert opinion about organizing these sports events was very encouraging and suggest that J&K has upgradaed infrastructure to host sports events of international standard. He said government would pool its all available resources to further upgrade the existing sports infrastructure upto latest standards so that more sports events could be hosted in the state in future also to acquaint the local players with latest about the games. He hoped that the participants in the championship would have enjoyed the hospitality, for which the people of the state are known world over. He also congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir team for getting 3rd position besides registering highest Individual scores in the tournament. On this occasion, a colourful cultural programme including scintillating Bangra (Dance) was performed by the students of the government higher secondary school, Planwala which enthralled the audience. The trophies and awards were given away to the Individual players, winner and runner up teams jointly by Mr. Khazar Mohammad Wani and Mr. G. A. Peer. They also released a souvenior on the championship for girls prepared by the department of Youth Services and Sports.
