Krishi Vigyan Kendra imparts Training on Natural Farming

REASI, Jan 3: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized training programme on natural farming here today at Gunn village in Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of farm women of the village.
The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The major objective of the programme was to train the women farmers on natural farming and educate them on the various technologies required in natural farming. Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the importance of natural farming in present era.
He said that Reasi district of J&K has an immense potential in natural farming and the farmers of the district can generate more income and employment by producing the quality food through natural farming. He further said that natural farming is the need of hour as it is beneficial for the maintenance of good soil health, human health and environment.
He added that there is need to produce the quality food and natural farming can play the significant role in the production of safe and healthy food. He elaborated the transition strategy to natural farming and emphasized on the cluster based approach required for natural farming. He informed that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity.
He discussed on the pillars of natural farming and stressed on the presence of proper organic matter in the soil. He demonstrated the technique for the formulation of natural farming inputs such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya, Neemastra and highlighted the practices of mulching, Acchadana and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming.
He said that the application of organic formulations in the soil help to increase the organic matter in the soil. He narrated that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs and reducing the cost of cultivation. He highlighted the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. The participants asked various quarries regarding the natural farming which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientist. Manohar Lal of KVK, Reasi helped in arranging logistics and mobilising farmers for the training programme. The programme was concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks.
