| Govt’s no to open choice | | Colleges say syllabus almost complete | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: The Government has indicated the demand of students for granting open choice in the upcoming undergraduate examinations of the University is not being acceded to. In view of the ongoing strike by many student organizations demanding open choice, the Commissioner-Secretary Higher Education today chaired a high level meeting also attended by the Registrar of the University of Jammu. The meeting had an assessment of the report submitted by Principals of various colleges about status of syllabus and its coverage after the two-month long agitation in Jammu. Sources said that it was clearly submitted in the report that there was no serious lag in syllabus coverage which warrant lenient examination measures like open choice. The Principals are reported to have submitted in their report that extra classes were taken to complete syllabus and nothing is left for granting open choice. The University of Jammu too has given a similar opinion and informed that government that teaching days were also extended from five days to six days for speedy coverage of syllabus. Sources informed that the meeting took a strong view of the strike by various student organizations and understood that demand of open choice shall not be acceded to.
