Kashmir may get rain, snow in next 2 days

Srinagar, Jan 6: Severe cold conditions continued even a slight improvement in night temperature on Friday as Meteorological Department forecast mainly dry weather over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours and scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain/snow during the next 48 hours.
Two back to back Western Disturbances in quick succession to affect Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh can cause light rain and snow at one or two places from Friday, Faizan Arif an independent Weather observer said.
He said cloudy weather with light rain/snow will occur at one or two places while light rain/snow at a few places (mostly towards night) on January 7. On January 8 Light/moderate rain/snow at most places in Kashmir & Kargil and a few places in Jammu & Leh with Possibility of heavy snowfall at a few places in higher reaches.
He said the second WD is likely affect on January 11 with light/moderate rain/snow at most places in Kashmir & Kargil and at a few places in Jammu & Leh while on January 12 and 13 Light/moderate rain/snow at most places in Jammu, Kashmir & Kargil and a few places in Leh.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 5.5 degree Celsius on Friday against minus 6.4 degree Celsius recorded a day ago which was the lowest so far during this period of the season.
Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir remained the coldest place with a low of minus 8.6 degree Celsius against 9.2 degree Celsius the previous night.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of 5.0 degree Celsius on Friday against 7.5 degree Celsius recorded on Thursday.
Kupwara which also recorded the season's lowest minimum temperature at minus 6.2 degree Celsius on Thursday had a low of minus 5.6 degree Celsius on Friday.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.8 degree Celsius while Kokernag had a low of minus 4.3 degree Celsius on Friday, the MeT office said.
