JU Vice-Chancellor releases book on Cell Biology Genetics & Evolution

JAMMU, Jan 7: The Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu, Professor Umesh Rai today released a book entitled 'Cell Biology, Genetics & Evolution' in his office chambers. The book authored by Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal, GLDM Govt. Degree College, Hiranagar, Dr. Parvinder Kumar, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Zoology, University of Jammu and Research Scholar Ankush Bala has been published by the Jaya Publishing House, Delhi.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rai congratulated the authors and commended the efforts of the authors and said that the discipline of Genetics is an ever evolving one and requires constant updating and thorough research Dr Arvind Jasrotia Registrar , JU, Dr Neeraj Sharma spl. sect. to VC and Dr. Imran Farooq were also present on the occasion.
While speaking about the book, Dr. Pragya Khanna emphasized that the book a comprehensive compendium offers a thorough, easy to understand introduction to the fundamental principles of Cell Biology & Genetics. The fields of Cell Biology, Genetics and Evolution have made considerable progress in recent years, generating enormous measure of new and significant information. This book is an endeavour to present a reasonable coverage on basic concepts of these areas ranging from classical cytology to modern molecular biology with an essence of Evolutionary Biology, Population Genetics and Species Concept. It gives an overview of the molecular structure of genes and their modes of replication, DNA repair and recombination (Genetic engineering), genetic disorders, the structure and function of oncogenes and proto-oncogenes & provides an insight into the molecular genetics of cancer. Besides, the book is well rounded up with a separate chapter that attempts to convey the excitement of genetics in the present times and its future prospects.
The book is intended to be an all-inclusive guide with easy to read text and focuses on the syllabi and curriculum of most Indian Universities with appropriate tools of self-assessment for various competitive examinations like NET/SLET. An effort has been made to provide appropriate illustrations/diagrams/photographs throughout the text for easy understanding of the concepts.
She presented the copies of the book to all the dignitaries on the occasion and thanked the Chair and other personages immensely for this encouragement.
