With 11 seats, BJP major gainer

Jammu, Dec 28: While the election results for a mixed bag of surprises and shocks for all parties, BJP emerged as single largest gainer in the entire exercise enhancing its tally from one in 2002 to 11 in these elections.
Many new and lesser known faces of BJP have unseated many stalwarts of the Congress and the BJP has no hesitation in admitting that Amarnath land row shaped up its victory. "Definitely, the Amarnath land issue was important. We were party to the (Amarnath Sangharsh) Samiti," senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Chaman Lal Gupta said when asked if BJP's performance in elections to the 87 constituencies was helped by the land issue, especially in Jammu region.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which had won a lone seat in 2002 of Nagrota constituency gave big surprise by winning 11 seats in the region for the first time. The reason behind getting double figure by BJP this true was fight between nationalist forces against anti-nationalist. Party also got shot in the arm due to two month long agitation of Shri Amarnath shine land row.
Attacking the PDP, Chalam Lal Gupta said, "PDP has behaved as an anti-national party. The then government of which PDP and Congress were part was not behaving like a government. People felt the government's functioning was very dangerous."
Gupta, who was a Union Minister of State of Defence during 2002-2004 in BJP-led NDA government at Centre, said the party was ready to sit in the Opposition bench.
Senior party leaders, which include L.K. Advani, Rajnath Singh, Narinder Modi, Murli Mahonar Joshi, Smriti Irani and Navjot Singh Sidhu were star campaigners for BJP and due to this magic party won 11 seats for the first true and created history in state legislative. The poll percentage has also gone up though it lost few seas with a very thin margin. The main losers were senior leaders Dr. Nirmal Singh form Gandhi Nagar constituency to congress candidate Raman Bhalla by 2263 votes, Chander Prakash Ganga of Vijaypur Constituency to National Conference candidate Surjeet Singh Slathia by 27 votes. Party also loss Bishnah seat, although party tried to get sympathy vote by putting martyr Kuldeep Verma’s wife Shilpi Verma in the election fray/ at some constituencies emotional vote worked to, but a few segments it did not materialize like, Akhnoor and Chammb, were Congress candidates Sham Lal Sharma and Former speaker Tara Chand got elected. The party candidate also lost Kishtwar seat to National Conference candidates after tough fight. The party may or may not repeat the same trend in next election but this time, it has made history and the credit goes to Amarnath land row which helped BJP to reach the double figure. The party get blank in valley this time also.
The party candidates won from Bani, Basohli, Hiranagar, R S Pura, Suchetgarh, Raipur-Domana, Nagrota, Reasi, Jammu East and Jammu West.
The BJP’s gain also indicates peoples support for setting up Delimitation commission in the state, and will end of regional discrimination.
State party chief Ashok Khajuria while talking to media persons aid, party will sit in opposition and will play a constructive role in the assembly beside will safe guard the interest of Jammu region.
