KVK provides Innovative Agri-solutions to Farmers

Jammu, Jan 8: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is providing the innovative agri-solutions to farmers to enhance their income and employment. Many new farmers are showing zeal and enthusiasm towards new innovations promoted by KVK, Reasi. According to Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi KVK is imparting skills on innovative agricultural technologies and providing the innovative agri-solutions to the farmers of different areas so that they can generate more income and employment and improve their socio-economic status. According to him, KVK is guiding the farmers on medicinal and aromatic plants and their value addition, Kadaknath farming, scientific strawberry cultivation, scientific beekeeping, value addition in mushroom, value addition in vegetables, fruits, flowers, spices, pulses etc. by which new micro-entrepreneurships can be developed in the rural hilly areas He said that KVK, Reasi is stressing on agri-entrepreneurship among the rural youths so that the rural migration can be minimized. He added that KVK is upgrading the knowledge of the farmers on packaging, branding and efficient marketing of agro-products. He informed that KVK is also encouraging the women farmers on nutri-gardens to mitigate the nutritional problem among the rural families. He further said that KVK is educating farmers on hydroponics technology, high density orchards and protected cultivation for more returns.
Dr.Banarsi said that by the value addition in floriculture can open new avenues in Reasi distt. as the different kinds of products such as dhoop, agarbatis etc. can be made from them and the district has an immense scope of such kinds of products. He said that organic floral products have demand in the market and farmers can enhance their income by making them in the rural areas. He informed that Distt. Agro-Metrological Unit (DAMU) has been established at KVK, Reasi and KVK scientists are providing the timely agro-met advisories to the farmers by which the farmers can reap more profits by timely managing their crops. He added that KVK has established an IT unit at KVK and scientists are guiding the farmers to effectively and efficiently use the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in agriculture so that new agricultural information can be obtained even in the remotest areas of the district.
He said that KVK scientists are guiding the farmers on natural farming and upgrading their knowledge on formulation of various bio-products at rural level. He said that through natural farming quality food can be produced and nutritional and health status of people can be improved.
