| Faith overruns progress promos | | BJP’s gain & Congress’ loss | | SANDEEP BHAT Jammu, Dec 29: With the just conclusion of assembly elections 2008, the new picture of the Assembly is in front of us. It is clear form the verdict, no party alone can make the government in the state and the era of coalition govt has to continue in the state. The Amarnath Land row has effected the results in the elections and those who supported it directly or indirectly has got benefited in Jammu region right form Bani ot Reasi, where big stalwarts of congress were defeated. With the announcement of results in Jammu province, BJP which supported the Jammu agitation got maximum benefit and the people gave them positive response. In Jammu, Kathua, and Samba, it got good pool. Where in Samba district, at Samba and Vijaypur, BJP lost with a very narrow margin and on the other side, it emerged as a powerful in Jammu and Kathua districts, In Jammu district, out of 11 Assembly segments, BJP got success on 7 places which include of Jammu east, where BJP state president Ashok Khajuria got success by getting 15857 votes defeated congress candidate Narinder Singh Raju who got 5453 votes only. In Jammu-west, BJP senior leader and former Union Minister Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta got 34294, where he defeated Surinder Singh Shingari (independent) who secured 21198 votes. Where as in 2002 Assembly election BJP lone winner from Nagrota Jugal kishore repeated his performance by securing 11141 votes against National Congerence candidate Ajatshatru Singh who got 9521 votes from R.S. Pura, Prof. Gharu Ram Bhagat of BJP remained successful by securing 15902 votes where he defeated congress stalwart Suman Bhagat who secured 14272 votes. In Suchetgarh, BJP candidate Sham Chaudhary got 17995 votes, against T.S.Tony who secured 10403 votes. In Marh constituency, Sukhnanden Choudhary of BJP defeated NC stalwart and former MLA Ajay Sadohtra by securing 18368 where as Sadohtra got 11787 votes. In Raipur Domana, BJP candidate Bharat Bhushan Bodhi secured 28685 votes against congress Mula Ram who secured 16416 votes. In Jammu District out of 11 seats, BJP got success on seven seats whereas they lost Bishnah, Gandhi Nagar, Akhnoor and Chamb. BJP has emerged as a strong force and it is a fact that Amarnath Land row benefited the party candidates; hence the issue of faith overshadowed the issue of development in Jammu. |
