| Hassan Mir wants Congress to lead | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 29: The Chief of Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party (JKDP) Ghulam Hassan Mir today suggested to the Congress to form the Government as it would deliver the goods better than the National Conference and the PDP. When reminded that the Congress did not have to majority required for forming the Government, Mir said "let the Congress form the Government and others will support it.” adding "I will be the first MLA to lend support to the Congress." In reply to a question Mir said that his campaign against the family rule will continue. Asked whether the poor performance of the JKDP in the election was going to affect his campaign Mir said "numbers do not matter." He said he quit the PDP, of which he was the founder member, and floated the JKDP simply to fight against the family rule of Muftis and Abdullahs. However, voters in Kashmir seem to have voted in favour of the family rule which was evident from the way Dr Farooq, his son, Omar Abdullah, Mufti Sayeed, his daughter, Mehbooba, have won the election. About the proposed third front Mir said the election results will not dent his resolve to form the third front. He said the front was a political need in the state. However, besides him, two other leaders, who have been supporting the plan of forming the third front, Hakeem Mohammed Yasin and MY Tarigami have won the election. Tarigami seemed to be pessimistic about the third front getting birth in the state. |
