Bharat Jodo: Congress books 600 hotel rooms in Kashmir
1/12/2023 11:40:23 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 12: Hoping to host numerous dignitaries from across the country at the valedictory ceremony of Bharat Jodo Yatra here, the Indian National Congress has booked as many as 600 hotel rooms in the summer capital of Srinagar.
Sources in the party said the JK chapter of the Congress has booked rooms in some of the prominent hotels where top leadership of the party and other dignitaries including Chief Ministers and Member Parliaments are expected to stay.
Sources said most of the hotels have been booked on the banks of the famed Dal Lake here.
A senior Congress leader told the Early Times that the Chief Ministers and other ministers of the all the party ruled states, apart from the Nehru-Gandhi family members, and other dignitaries from across the country, were expected to attend the event in Kashmir, scheduled later this month when Rahul Gandhi will hoist a tricolor here.
The Congress has invited 21 like-minded parties to participate in the concluding programme of its “Bharat Jodo Yatra” in Srinagar on January 30 to “strengthen” its message of “harmony and equality”. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has sent out the invite to presidents of the parties this evening. The list of invited parties includes the Trinamool Congress, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United, Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party, CPM, Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party is conspicuous for being missing from the list of invitees. The Congress has accused AAP of launching a veiled attack on the march with its appeal to the Centre to enforce Covid19 protocols following the surge of the pandemic in China.
“At this event, we commit ourselves to fighting hatred and violence, to spread the message of truth, compassion and non-violence and to defend the constitutional values of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice for all,” Kharge’s letter reads.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, being led by Rahul Gandhi, has seen the participation of various like-minded parties and key figures from the civil society and showbiz including Kamal Hasan in its 3750-km route through the states.
