| Rural-Urban wedge deepens in Doda | | | Early Times Report Doda Dec 31- Though fog was cleared over the government formation but the wedge created between Rural and Urban people seems deepening in Doda district. The vengeance was seen when NC supporters organized victory rally under the leadership of Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardhy to celebrate Omar Abdullah’s, NC party president, declaration of becoming Chief Minister of the state to show of anger against the Congress supporters. Here people are divided into two poles which were recognized only by means of their affiliation of the party. It is worth mentioning that after 2002 elections the supporter of one group after losing elections targeted the supporters of other group and destroyed their properties as well. This time NC candidate Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardhy has lost the elections for the second consecutive time against Congress candidate Abdul Majid Wani with a margin of 7152 votes, which has become hard to digest for them. Impressive procession, amidst dancing at the beats of drums, busting crackers and distributing sweets, marked the victory of Congress candidate Abdul Majid Wani from Doda in the assembly elections. Since the declaration of Wani as victorious by the election authorities, people from his native village and from other areas have been taking out victory processions and exhibiting their excitement by picking their leader over the shoulders and garlanding him profusely. They were shouting slogans in support of him and Congress party and Ghulam Nabi Azad. Describing his victory as the acknowledgement of development, Wani said that the entire credit goes to people of Doda constituency who reposed their faith in him for the second consecutive time. He further said that people has voted him because they want development instead of hoax promises which erstwhile governments had made with them.
