| Potential losers’ may get a seat in LC | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 31- The first task 87 members of the Assembly may have to perform is to elect 17 members to the Upper House. Before the poll results there were 11 seats vacant in the Legislative Council but after two PDP leaders, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and Basharat Bukhari were elected to the Assembly from Bandipore and Sangrama constituencies there are now 17 seats vacant, which include four seats that are to fall vacant shortly. The National Conference with 28 members in the Assembly will get a major share to be followed by the PDP, which has 21 members, Congress having 17 members and the BJP, which has 11 members. Reports said that all the four parties will rehabilitate some of those who had lost the Assembly election. While the BJP may try to rehabilitate Shilpi Verma, wife of martyr, Kuldeep Verma, who lost to Ashwani Sharma from Bishnah constituency and Chander Prakash who was defeated by Surjit Singh Slathia in Vijaypur constituency, the National Conference is likely to field Mohammed Shafi Uri who has not been able to make it to the Assembly since 2002 election. The Congress may rehabilitate Mangat Ram Sharma, in case he is not fielded as party candidate from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat. Besides, Janak Raj Gupta and Guchain Singh Charak are two other aspirants for a berth in the Legislative Council. The PDP leadership may favour Dilawar Mir who lost from Rafiabad. Council sources said that the schedule for the Council election may be decided after the new Government was established in the state within next one week.
