| Repoll demanded in Bishnah | | Police cane charge on demonstrators | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 31- A large number of voters from Bishnah assembly constituency blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for over three hours near Kunjwani bypass on Wednesday demanding re-poll in their constituency. The police when failed to pacify the agitating supporters of different political parties resorted to teargas shelling and mild lathi charge to disperse them resulting injuries to large number of people. The people who were sitting on a dharna said, the Jammu and Kashmir police resorted to heavy use of police force on new years’ eve and thrashed them while they were protesting peacefully. Trouble started around noon when several hundred people atop trolleys and tractors reached Kunjwani bypass and organized dharna in the middle of the road blocking vehicular movement to and from Kunjwani intersection. The agitating voters of Bishnah assembly seat were demanding re-poll alleging rigging to facilitate victory of sitting MLA Ashwini Sharma .BSP candidate Kamal Arora defeated by Ashwini alleged that large scale rigging was committed to help Ashwini win elections. Several police officials visited the spot to pacify the angry voters but they insisted they would lift the dharna only after officials of the Election Commission assures re- polling in the constituencies.
