Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Jan 28: 2 days seminar on "Community Policing" culminated today. In the Seminar (22) officers of the rank of SI and Inspector of J&K Police attended the training programme.
The concept of community policing goes back to the very origin of Police but it has become popular during the past few decades. In many democratic societies public relations are at top priorities as promising alternative to the traditional mode of law enforcement.
On the occasion a valediction function was organized in the Academy. Sunmati Gupta, Dy.SP, SKPA was the chief guest on the occasion of valediction. During his valedictory address he laid emphasis that the lack of both community policing and public relations rendered the police ineffective and alienated from public. Under new concept, crime control/law and order management are recognized as truly participative function, with the total involvement of community which actively cooperate with the police in identifying and resolving issues that give rise to crime and disorder. He also advised the participants to consider community policing as inseparable organ of police functioning.
The eminent speakers including Sarita Sood, Asstt. Prof. Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, as well as faculty of this Academia delivered lectures to the participants and shared their valuable experience. The valedictory function was also attended by member faculty of SKPA.
The course was coordinated by Sandeep Mahajan, Inspr. and Sukhvir Singh, SI SKPA Udhampur.
