AAP demands restoration of statehood

JAMMU, Feb 2: The Aam Aadmi Party staged a vigorous protest at Hari Singh Park in Jammu on Thursday demanding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and also courted arrests. Police personnel deployed in large numbers to stop the protesters also arrested several leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and later released them.
Senior party leaders Ravi Shastri, Amit Kapoor, Harpreet Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Raju Salaria, Parminder Singh, Jayesh Gupta, Harnek, Raju Pangotra, Gulzar, Harish and others among AAP leaders arrested by policemen to quell the protestors were.
During this, the protesters were raising slogans to restore the statehood. At the same time, while addressing the protesters, various AAP leaders made a strong demand for early restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, demanding the establishment of an elected government, he also raised the demand for early assembly elections. He said that several assurances by the Central Government to restore statehood to J&K at an appropriate time have failed to inspire the people of J&K who have lost faith in all such dramatic boastings of the BJP leadership.
During this, various speakers said that while the people of the erstwhile state were stunned and confused by the sudden abrogation of Article 370, they expressed their strong opposition to the abolition of the 200-year-old historical state of Jammu and Kashmir and downgrading it to the level of a UT. had expressed He said that such a move by the BJP-led government has not only demoralized the people of the erstwhile state but has also created a huge gloom in the hearts and minds of the general public. In fact every sensible citizen was feeling degraded and humiliated. These leaders said that this has deeply hurt the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir who feel small and dwarfed.
AAP leaders said that history is witness that Jammu and Kashmir acceded to the Indian Union in 1947 despite many hurdles, pulls and pressures because of the historic decision taken by Maharaja Hari Singh. He said that downgrading it from State to Union Territory is a huge insult to the patriotic people of Jammu and Kashmir. He demanded from the Central Government that the state should be restored soon and an elected government should be established. Along with this, he warned that if the government did not restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir, then the Aam Aami Party would start a big mass movement.
AAP leaders said that the bureaucracy has completely failed to live up to the expectations of the people at this time due to which the common people are facing huge problems. He said that an elected government was the only solution to the problems of the people, so the assembly elections should be held at the earliest.
