JAMMU, JANUARY 01 – A spokesman of the Higher Education department while clarifying press reports about admissions to B. Ed course in various Colleges of Education has said that the university of Jammu is strictly adhering to the criteria of admission to B. Ed course viz a viz 45 percent for general category and 40 percent for reserved categories as prescribed under Govt. Order No. 142-HE of 2007 dated 19-12- 2007. He said as per University statutes 75 percent of the sanctioned seats available in private colleges of Education are to be filled from amongst eligible local candidates and 25 percent from eligible non-local candidates adding that seats meant for locals which remain vacant are transferred to non-locals. He said that all the eligible local candidates including reserved category candidates have been granted admission to B.ED course according to their choice in various non government Colleges of Education. He said though as per statutes, only local candidates can seek admission under various categories yet, in view of availability of seats all the eligible non local candidates including reserved category candidates have also been granted admission to B.ED course according to their choice in the various Private Colleges of Education. Giving details about admissions made in B. Ed Colleges, the spokesman said that against total number of available 17,411 seats, 12994 seats have been filled. These include 3209 seats filled from local applicants and 9785 seats filled from non-locals. These admissions are excluding two colleges i.e. Sher-i-Kashmir College of Education and Bhai Bir Singh College of Education – NOCs have been withheld following receipt of complaints against the management and trust of these institutions. He said as many as 19458 candidates had applied including 3702 local applicants and 15756 non-local applicants. He said 4917 seats have been left unfilled
