Over 5.21 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance at Shiv Khori

REASI, JAN 1: A record number of over 5, 21,306 pilgrims from within and various parts of the country visited the historic Shiv Khori Shrine cave situated in village Sanger near Ransoo of Pouni block of the Reasi district during the last calendar year.
During the year 2007, over 4, 54,465 pilgrims had darshan of the holy Shiv Lingam and other deities existing in the cave thus registering an increase of about 66841 pilgrims during the year 2008.
It was disclosed by the Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. Sanjeev Verma who is also the Vice Chairman of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board here at Reasi today.
The pilgrimage would have been crossed over 7 lakh mark during the year 2008 but the yatra to the Shiv Khori Shrine Cave was badly affected during the Jammu bandh which remained continuously for two months during July and August, 2008 when the flow of visiting devotees to the cave shrine was near about two thousands to three thousands daily.
This historic Shiv Khori Shrine Cave is now emerging as the second largest pilgrimage destination in the Reasi district after the historic Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine pilgrimage.
Presently 2500 to 3000 devotees are visiting daily to the cave shrine to pay obeisance. The rush of pilgrimage was seen above three thousands daily since 26th December, 2008 onward.
Keeping in view the charming natural beauty, topography and significance of this area, Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board is also making all out efforts to development this place as a good tourist resort with tourist infrastructural facilities for the visiting pilgrims. Number of development works has been taken in hand by the Shiv Khori Shrine Board under the energetic guidance of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu who is also the Chairman of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board to provide more and more infrastructural facilities to the visiting pilgrims. The work on 5 storied waiting hall near the cave at an estimated cost of Rs, 2.50 crores is under speedy progress besides conservation of Doodh Ganga nallah, construction of Serai at Ransoo at a cost of Rs. 39 lakh, development of parks and gardens, Chak dams at Ransoo nallah for recreation of visiting pilgrims, plantation of medicinal plants all along the way, adequate electrification and drinking water arrangements and other development works are already underway.
