| Post poll protests: one dead, tension in Arnia | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 1: Even as the elections passed off peacefully, two political activists today died in a sort of post poll violence. While one person was killed in group clashes in Kokernag village of South Kashmir, another succumbed to injuries in Arnia area of Bishnah constituency after being beaten by Police when in a protest demonstration for re-poll in the constituency. Situation was reported to be tense in Arnia area following the death of a person who was injured during protest demonstration, held at Kujwani area yesterday. The deceased identified as Bodh Raj resident of Arnia was among those who got severe injuries by police cane charge during protest demonstration demanding repoll in Bishnah constituency. Police men large in number were deputed in the area in order to curb any further demonstration. Pertinent to mention here that large number of supporters of BSP staged protest demonstration alleging embezzlement during voting. They demanded repoll in Bishnah constituency and inorder to disperse the mob police resorted to cane charge on them resulting injuries to many people. Bodh Raj also received injuries. “During night he started shivering due to pain and breathed his last at home”, residents of the area said. Board of doctors in Bishnah after doing postmortem of the deceased handed over his body to the deceased family members. Police sensing situation tense has made castle of cops in the area. A senior police officer when contacted said that the deceased was the heart patient and yester night he got pain in his heart and died where as residents of the area alleged police brutality is responsible for the death of the Bodh Raj. Meanwhile, a man was killed in a clash between two rival groups at Kokernag in south Kashmir, official sources said. They said two groups of people clashed with each other at village Kandi Kote, Kokernag, in Anantnag district last night. In the clash, one Abdul Rashid Wani was critically injured as he was hit on the head. He was admitted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at Soura, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police have registered a case and started investigation, they said.
