Harvesting of Tomato begins at Krishi Bhawan

JAMMU, Feb 7: Director Agriculture Production & Farmer Welfare Jammu, K.K. Sharma today inaugurated the first picking of Tomato (Augustya) being grown under protected conditions, here in the Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo.
Different vegetable crops, using advanced cultivation practices, are being raised in Krishi Bhawan under Naturally Ventilated Polygreen House (NVPGH) structure for demonstration and popularization among the farmers.
Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension), Subash Sharma, Joint Director Mushrooms & Apiculture, R.K. Hiteshi, Joint Director Marketing, Mahesh Verma, Agronomist Vegetable J.C. Raina, SMS-II Chander Prakash, AEA Dharmeshwar Vaid and AEA Raghu Partap Singh were present on the occasion besides others.
The Director Agriculture said that every effort should be made to popularize high tech interventions by the department for enhancing farmers' income and attracting the educated unemployed youth towards agri-preneurship. He stressed upon the officers to motivate the farmers to go for the production of exotic and high value vegetables like Seedless Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Red and Yellow Bell peppers under protected and controlled conditions to get round the year production with high returns. He further impressed upon the popularization of Vegetable cultivation in Grow Bags and Trays under Rooftop/Urban farming.
The distribution of Tomato, Cucumbers, Bottlegourd, Bitter gourd, Brinjal, Chillies and capsicum was also inaugurated by the Director on the occasion. Agronomist (Vegetables), J. C. Raina apprised on the occasion that about 5.0 lakh Vegetable Seedlings grown under poly houses of the department are ready for distribution on nominal charges during Kharif 2023 season.
