Reduce probation period to five years, demands protesting ReK teachers

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 7: Asserting that they are the Frontline workers in every field, the protesting Rehbar-e-Khel teachers on Tuesday demanded that the probation period should be reduced to five years instead of seven years.
Hundreds of ReK teachers under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers Association this morning protested outside office of their parent department Directororate of Youth Services and Sports amidst slogans.
The protest of ReK teachers have entered the 50th consecutive day.
"We are protesting for the past 50 days but no government representative visited us to address our concerns," said the protestors.
They said that they are simply demanding reduction of probation period to five years and one-time settlement thereafter.
"We are acting like frontline workers, either it was COVID period or any government function," adding, "nobody is ready to listen us. Why don't the government come clear on its policy and playing with the lives of over 2500 ReKs across the Union Territory."
"If we are of no use, let the government take a final decision instead of putting our future at stake. It is impossible to survive at Rs 3000/- per month," said the protestors.
Carrying banners and placards, the protesting ReKs shouted slogans and appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to issue an official order considering their demands.
Government must clear that what is the locus standi of the ReKs, they said and added, "the government first confirm 2670 ReKs in Jammu and Kashmir and cut short our probation period."
"Only committees are being framed but nothing has come out positive and concrete on ground," they said.
On January 4, police also resorted to lathi-charge to disperse protesting Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers demanding regularisation.
The Rehbar-e-Khel teachers claimed that the administration committed with their delegation at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar on May 29, 2022.
They claimed that the LG administration has directed the department to implement the order which was proposed by the committee earlier and it is against the policy and cabinet order of Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers.
“We perform duties with enthusiasm, but the present government denies justice to us,” they added and said that as per the policy the available vacancies of PET's will be kept reserved for Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers but the Govt is going to de-freeze the freezed posts, which is totally injustice with them.
