Substance abuse poses threat
2/7/2023 11:20:26 PM
Jammu and Kashmir Government has launched a decisive war against the drug menace in the Union Territory.
Many drug peddlers have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and stringent laws have been framed to prevent the drug trade from flourishing.
Recently Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta chaired the 4th UT Level Apex Committee meeting of NCORD and held an in-depth review of all the ongoing activities happening across J&K to combat the drug menace.
He stressed on the need to provide all the possible assistance to substance abusers so that they can live a normal life.
The Chief Secretary impressed upon the officers to take the ongoing war against drugs to its logical end and focus on rehabilitation of its victims.
The government has been actively working on all the fronts to end the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir, but people need to bear it in mind that the government only cannot achieve the aim of making J&K a drug free place. Society has to play an important role. If the drug menace has to be tackled then everyone has to come together and fight out this monster which is out to devour everyone.
The government has taken a slew of measures to rehabilitate drug abuse victims as well as for generating awareness among the public particularly youth about the negative impact of drug abuse. But people have to understand that fighting drug menace is their collective responsibility. Elders in the society have to play a significant role in curbing this menace. They cannot just turn a blind eye. Elders have to keep a vigil over the activities of the younger people and have to make sure that they don’t fall into bad company.
The drug peddlers are usually active near the places that are thronged by the youngsters. These places include schools, colleges, universities, gymnasiums, etc. It’s the duty of a common man to observe and inform the law enforcing agencies about any unusual activities taking place around these areas. A person cannot ignore such activities.
If the drug menace has to be eradicated from Jammu and Kashmir the people and the government have to maintain complete synergy and coordination. Only collective effort can save the generation next from falling into the trap of the people selling poison.
