| CNN-IBN on Srinagar prostitution racket | | A startling new dimension to the sex scandal case | | SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, SEPT. 17: A special investigation team (SIT) of the popular CNN-IBN television channel and www.orbat.com have now revealed a startling new dimension to the Srinagar sex scandal case, which was transferred by the Supreme Court last month to the Court of the District and Sessions Judge in Chandigarh to ensure fair trial. Srinagar was on the boil when images of Sabeena, who ran a brothel from a house in the Chinkral Mohalla of Habbakadal area, came out in the open. After news of the prostitution racket broke protestors ransacked the house. As names of public figures and government officials allegedly involved in the sex scandal cropped up, the protests become more vocal.
"Crores of rupees have been spent to wipe out the names of the big guns from the scandal," chief, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Asiya Andrabi said. While there has been public outrage in the city, what is now emerging is that Sabeena's brothel was a known fact in Srinagar.
A report of the J&K CID, dated April 2002, accessed by CNN-IBN's special investigation, states: " …shady persons are reportedly visiting the place. It has also been reported that some officers/officials also visit the suspicious lady." And this CID report dated August 2005 reveals that terror groups had called local newspapers saying they would soon target those in the flesh trade.
CNN-IBN's special investigation has learnt that senior security officials detained in the sex scandal have told the CBI, that Sabeena's network of girls was in fact a source of information about terrorists who were known to visit her brothel. "It is now suggested that terror groups on finding out that Sabeena's brothel was an intelligence source, hit back by planting the sex scandal story in the media", said CNN-IBN report on Sunday.
The report added: "In fact, this confidential intelligence report reveals that the J&K police knew in 2004 that Sabeena's brothel may be used to implicate politicians and government officials in a sex scandal". So, was Sabeena's house more than just a brothel? Was her house a source for intelligence on terrorists? Or did it in fact operate the other way round, controlled by terrorists?
"Whatever be the case, there is more than meets the eye in the Srinagar sex scandal", says the CNN-IBN report.
