| Gujjars want Dy CM's post going to Aslam | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan.02-The Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today warned the Congress and National Conference of serious ramification if both the parties ignore the candidature of senior most Congress leader of Jammu region Ch. Mohammad Aslam for the post of Deputy Chief Minister. In a memorandum, signed by all the dignitaries of the tribal community to whom Ch Aslam belongs, faxed to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and NC Patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah, it has been strongly demanded that the superior claim of Gujjar leader be taken into consideration while deciding candidature of Deputy Chief Minister of the 11th assembly . They urged that due share be given to Gujjars, the third largest identity of the State, and warned against any sort of discriminations on the issue. The massage has been sent through Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar, Bakerwal Joint Forum, and a primer organization of Scheduled Tribe Communities of the State. Talking about the contents of the memorandum Haji Shamsheer Ali Bokan, the State President of the JKGBF stated that it would be humiliating for Gujjars of Jammu, which "constitute more then 30 percent" of the population of the region, if Ch. Aslam, a sixth time legislature of the community and one of the stalwarts of Congress party is ignored in respect of superior claim on the basis of religion. "In the earlier PDP-Congress coalition when none had objection with Ghulam Nabi Azad as the chief minister from Jammu, why should this time Choudhary's religion come in the way," Boken said adding that the Gujjars have asked the Congress and NC leadership not to fall into the trap of "communalizing the situation and dividing the region on these lines." Boken said that ‘we the people of Jammu region cutting across the ethno-linguistic lines are one but Congress and NC is bent upon to divide us on the name Gujjars and Duggars’. He said if any Dogra of Ch Aslam's stature had won the election from the region then Gujjars ought to have supported his candidature willfully. He urged the people of Jammu to back the claim of Gujjar leader.
