SKUAST-J organizes training programme on beekeeping

Jammu, Feb 12: Division of Entomology in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi of SKUAST-J organized training programme on beekeeping here at Sudheen Village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K under the NABARD funded project “Mobilization of farmers through development of bee village through collective marketing of organic honey”. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Dr. RK Samnotra, Director Research and Dr. SK. Gupta, Director Extension of SKUAST-Jammu.
The programme was attended by a number of farmers of the area. While welcoming the farmers, Dr. Devinder Sharma, Assoc. Prof. ,SKUAST-J guided the participants on the scientific management of bee hives and advised them to diversify the beekeeping for more returns. He assured the full cooperation and support to the farmers from SKUAST-J so that more and more farmers are benefitted across the district. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi discussed on the entrepreneurship development in beekeeping and stressed on the organic honey production in hilly areas of the distt.
He also guided participants on Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers Producer Organisations. Dr.Anil Bhat, Asstt. Prof., SKUAST-J discussed on the organic vegetable cultivation and stressed on value addition in agriculture for more returns. Farmers raised various quarries regarding the beekeeping which were answered satisfactorily by the scientists. During the programme progressive farmers of the areaDev Raj and S.Gurdev Singh were also present who shared their experiences with the other farmers of the area. The programme was concluded by Dr. Devinder Sharma with the formal vote of thanks.
