| National seminar on Urdu in Jammu from Jan 12 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 03- In a joint effort to promote Urdu, the University of Jammu and University of Kashmir are holding two-day national seminar titled "Urdu in J&K Past Present and Future". The seminar shall be inaugurated jointly by Vice-Chancellor of JU, Prof Varun Sahini and Vice Chancellor of KU, Prof. Reyaz Punjabi here on January 12. “The seminar is of great importance in view of Urdu being the official language of the State, which has been neglected by the successive state governments despite its glorious past,” said seminar director, Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik. He further said that Dogra rulers had promoted the language from the core of their heart. However, after partition, the language was victimized by some communal forces for their petty interests knowing that the language had played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India. Prof. Reyaz Punjabi Vice Chancellor Kashmir University, in this regard said, "It is the prime duty of Universities to promote the language which teaches us love brotherhood and mutual understanding and the proposed seminar is first step in this direction”. Amin Banjara, a prominent Urdu writer also described the upcoming seminar a land mark in the history of Jammu University. Another prominent writer Balraj Bakshi was of the opinion that for the first time Urdu writers of the three regions of the state would sit together and chalk out future planning for the promotion of Urdu language. Prof. Shohab Malik informed that nearly 100 Urdu writers from the three regions of the state are participating in the seminar, besides some reputed Urdu scholars from other parts of the country are participating as observers.
