| VICHAAR MANCH ACTIVISTS PROTEST AGAINST RELEASE OF A KILLER OF PANDITS | | | Jammu, September 17 :- Activists of the Jammu and Kashmir Vichar Manch,an organization of displaced Pandits, on Sunday staged demonstration in protest against the failure of the state police in defending the arrest of Farooq Dar alias Bitta Karattee.Bitta,a dreaded terrorist belonging to the JKLF,has been on a television record admitting that he had killed 40 Pandits in 1990. The police had arrested him and for all these years he was in jail. The Vichar Manch held the protest demonstration following reports that Bitta had been released by the Supreme Court. The Supreme court quashed detention under PSA with strictures against the state Government that it had not honoured the quashing of his detention, ordered twice in the past. The Kashmir Vichar Manch,Dr R.L.Bhat,led the protest demonstration.Activists of the Manch, wearing black badges, shouted slogans against the police for not defending the arrest of the dreaded terrorist. A senior police officer said that Bitta had been arrested after 22 cases had been framed against him and “it is not our fault when the apex court quashed the detention of Bitta.” The Manch leaders blamed the police for preparing weak cases against Bitta which helped those having sympathy for the militants in getting the detention order quashed by the Supreme Court. Dr Bhat demanded that all cases against Bitta and others be reopened and a thorough investigation be carried out so that dreaded terrorists like Bitta were convicted by the court. He said that once militants like Bitta manage to jump freedom nobody can be safe. The Manch leaders said that the role the police played in preparing the cases against Bitta could encourage other militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir. |
