MANJEET CHRISTENS PDP AS ‘PINDEN DI PARTY’
9/17/2006 10:10:49 PM

Jammu, September 17 : Minister of state for Education Mr Manjeet Singh has rechreistened Peoples Democratic Party lead by Ms Mehbooba Mufti as Pinden di party (PDP).
Addressing a party function at RS Pura on Saturday where the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed was the chief Guest, Manjeet Singh explained that since PDP was an organization that wanted to serve people of the villages ,” I wish to call it a Pinden di Party’.This was greeted by people with cheers.
Infact, Manjeet Singh wanted to convey to the people that the PDP’s slogan of self rule was aimed at promoting federal regionalism which could enable all three regions Jammu,Kashmir and Ladakh to enjoy equitable distribution of funds and poltical power.
Manjeet Singh referred to the Muftis opposition to NC demand for greater Autonomy saying that the demand of the National conference was Kashmir centric and it had not received any support from people and politicians belonging to the Jammu and Ladakh regions. The Minister said that since the PDP leadership had decided to approach the Prime Minister for settling compensation cases of those village farmers whose land had been used for defence purposes including raising of the border fence, “I prefer to call the PDP as Pinden di party because Mufti Mohd Sayeed is capable enough to secure compensation which has not been received so far by the farmers.
The PDP leaders said that during the time the Mufti headed the coalition government emphasis was laid opening of new school and colleges , upgrading of educational institutions in the rural areas and on the development of road connectivity.
