KVK holds training programme on seed production, Niche Crops

REASI, Feb 22: Department of Agriculture, Reasi in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised one day training programme on "Seed production and promotion of Niche Crops" under Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP) here today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi campus. The programme was attended by a number of agricultural officers from state department of agriculture. Chief Agriculture officer Reasi, Harbans Singh inaugurated the event. While briefing the participants he discussed on HADP projects and emphasised on the close coordination for successful implementation of these projects. He also discussed on the modern technological interventions in seed production and stressed on Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for more returns. Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal delivered the detailed presentation on seed production and promotion of Niche crops. He briefed the participants about the technological interventions, execution and expected outcomes from the projects. He also guided the participants on the latest technologies in seed production and marketing management. He also spoke on value addition in niche area crops for more returns. District Agriculture Officer, Reasi, Rajesh Verma guided participants on quality seed production and stressed on the improved varieties of different crops for more profits. Earlier Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist warmly welcomed the participants and said that 29 projects approved under the holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors can be the game changer in the overall agricultural and allied sectors development in the area. Vinod Khajuria, SDAO and Amit Sharma SMS, Department of Agriculture, Reasi also spoke during the programme. At the end of training session a thorough interactive discussion was also conducted in which the queries were raised by the participants which were answered satisfactorily by the experts. The participants visited the various units of KVK, Reasi such as Hydroponics units, DAMU unit, Natural Farming unit, Crop Cafeteria, Polyhouse unit etc which were highly appreciated by the participants. During the programme Dr. Lalit Upadhyay and Dr. Arvinder Kumar also spoke during the programme. An exhibition depicting the various agricultural technologies were also arranged during the event. The programme was assisted by Manhor Lal and concluded by Preeti Choudhary with formal vote of thanks.
