IGNOU organizes on webinar on "Matribhasha Diwas"

JAMMU, Feb 22: Regional Centre Jammu organized a webinar on the occasion of "International Mother Language Day" which was attended by the officials and staff of the Regional Centre, Coordinators, Programme In-charges of Learner Support Centres of Jammu, students and other stakeholders of the University. The resource person for the special webinar was Dr. Kundan Yadav, Senior IRS, Additional Commissioner CGST under CBIC, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India at Chandigarh. Dr. Asha Upadhyay, Assistant Regional Director welcomed the resource person and briefed about the event. She called upon students to make it a point to develop proficiency in their mother tongue which would help them to achieve greater learning in their life. The highlight of the program was an invited lecture by Dr. Kundan Yadav on the need to preserve and protect mother tongue in a world which is rapidly changing due to technological advancements and globalisation. Dr. Yadav said that learning becomes natural and effortless when it is through one's mother tongue. Dr. Kundan Yadav in his discourse highlighted the importance of the Mother Tongue and its significance in celebrating the rich diversity of Indian languages. He called upon students to make all efforts to learn the native languages which need to be preserved and protected for safeguarding the identity of a particular geographic region. Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Regional Director In charge informed that the aim of organizing such an event is to promote various mother tongue and cultures of this diverse Nation. He informed about the significance of celebrating "Matribhasha Diwas" and its objectives. Dr. Vikram Singh, Assistant Regional Director presented the "vote of thanks" and said that conversations in mother tongue provide a soothing feeling and healing touch to people who have moved out of their homes to different regions for job purposes or any reason.
