Krishi Vigyan Kendra organises training programme on bamboo crafting

Reasi, Feb 24: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) organised training programme on “Bamboo Crafting” here at KVK, Reasi campus which was enthuastically attended by a large number of farmers and women farmers of the area. The programme was inaugurated by worthy DDM, NABARD, Adarsh Gupta. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering on bamboo crafting and said that the participants can avail the benefits of this innovative programme and can start entrepreneurship on bamboo crafting to increase their income. He added that bamboo crafting can be a source of income and employment among the rural people of the area. He stressed on cluster based approach for the rural development.
The Bamboo lady of India, Ms. Neera Sarmah guided the participants on bamboo crafting and demonstrated the techniques for making different kinds of products from bamboo. She narrated that one bamboo can generate one lakh rupees through its value addition. She added that value addition in bamboo crafting can open some new avenues of the income and employment among the rural women of the area. She guided the participants on bamboo jewellery and urged them to avail the benefit of the training so that they can start microenterprises in the rural areas. She also stressed on biodiversity conservation and environmental protection through bamboo cultivation.
Earlier Dr.Banrasi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head KVK, Reasi warmly welcomed the dignitaries and urged the participants to adopt the bamboo crafting so as to increase the income and employment among the farmers. He said that Reasi district has huge potential in Bamboo cultivation and farmers can start entrepreneurship in bamboo crafting. He stressed on Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for rural development. Dr.Lalit Upadhyay, Scientist spoke on production technology of Bamboo.
KVK Reasi also put up an exhibition stall depicting different technologies which were highly appreciated by the participants.
The farmers showed keen interest in the technologies demonstrated during the programme and highly appreciated the KVK efforts. The dignitaries applauded the KVK, Reasi for the endeavours of KVK for welfare of farming community. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Dr. Arvinder Kumar, Dr. Lobzang Stanzen, Sarpanch of the area, Sukhdev Singh and others were also present during the event.
The programme was co-ordinated byYougal Kishore Sharma, Nodal officer JKRLM, Reasi. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Preeti Chaudhary with formal vote of thanks.
