EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JAN 5: ‘Welcoming the new elected government, in the state, Jammu Business Coordination Committee (JBCM) has said that the new government will be judged from its performance. Adopting of people friendly policies and fair deal to all the three regions of the state will be the touch stone of its success or failure, said Kulbhushan Mahotra Chairman, JBCM at a meeting held here today. Expressing dissatisfaction over the economic revival package announced by the governor recently to compensate the losses suffered by the traders in Jammu and Kashmir during over two month long agitation in the regions, the coordination committee demanded that the losses suffered by the business community during the agitation, due to prolonged curfew and shut downs, should be duly compensated and a comprehensive package of relief, rehabilitation and incentives for the trade and industry should be announced by the new government. The committee demanded that uniformal 4% VAT should be charged on all the items in the state, in view of the poor economy of the state, and also demanded that in the new budged to be presented in the assembly, VAT on all the items should be brought down to 4%. He stressed the need for promoting tourism and pilgrimage in Jammu region, which has the potential to boost the economy of the region and the state as a whole. In this regard he said for setting up of artificial lake in the river Tawi, to attract the tourism and pilgrims to stay put in Jammu city. It also demanded expediting work of Mubarak Mandi heritage complex, as the work on the project is going on snails pace. It also demanded early launching of cable car between Mubarak Mandi and Bahu Fort and from there to Maha Maya Temple hill top. The committee also demanded development and propagation of pilgrim spots in Jammu region like Sukrala Devi in Bilawar, Uttervehni and Purmandal in Samba district, Shiv Khori, Buddha Amarnath, Shadra Sharrif, Gurudwara Nangali Sahib, Sudh Mahadev, Gouri Kund and Mantalai in Udhampur district. The others who attended the meeting were Sunil Jain, S K Sareen, Anil Gupta, Anil Suri and Sunil Agarwal.
