| Infant dies in SMGS, parents allege negligence | | |
SUMIT SHARMA Jammu, Jan 5: Sonu and Pushpinder have no hope of any more child as in precious pregnancy she gave birth to an infant which died due to the alleged negligence of doctors in SMGS hospital. The doctors in order to escape from their negligence are shifting blame to each other. Sonu was admitted in the hospital ahead of delivery date and at 12:30 PM today she gave birth to a boy infant, but amazingly no gynea doctor assisted them to take their infant to the Pediatric room. Father Pushpinder took the infant to ward number 12 for physical checkup of the infant but doctors sitting there shirking their responsibilities told him that due to shortage of staff today the checkup of infant will be done tomorrow. After some time the infant started showing uncomfortable signs and died. The couple took the infant to the room number 12 where doctors confirmed it dead citing reason that the mother milk instead of reaching into stomach stagnate into its throat. As soon the as the mother heard the doctors she fell over the ground unconsciously. Couple having tears in their eyes went to HOD of the department for registering their resentment but they were debarred to do the same by the gynecology staff. Pushpinder lamenting over the moment to come in SMGS said that as he had already spent much money for the treatment of his wife with the urge of a child and had not enough money to go the private clinic. This bleak picture reveals that how much doctors are sincere in their duties. Pertinent to mention here that in each unit there is two registrars, lecturers, Professor, assistant Professors, associate Professors and HOD including other Post Graduate doctors and the hospital is full of necessary equipments but still rate of deaths increased in every consecutive years reveal sheer negligence of doctors, a senior doctor on the condition of anonymity informed reporter. When EARLY TIMES contacted doctors of gynae they started shifting blame on each other instead of admitting the fault. HOD gynae Shashi Gupta when contacted said that she is out of station and Dr Rajni Razdaan is handling the unit. When contacted, Dr Razdaan said that she is on leave and Dr Anita Thakur could clarify the reason. Anita Thakur could not be reached despite repeated attempts. Deputy Medical Superintendent said that the matter will be looked into.
