| Lopsided affair, says BJP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 5: Sitting in the opposition, the composition of Omar Abdullah cabinet has not gone well with the BJP which has described as imbalanced. Terming the formation of 10-member state cabinet, which was sworn- in here today, as lopsided and most imbalanced, the former Union Minister and leader of the Pradesh BJP legislators’ party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that in the Cabinet formation little care has been taken to give due representation to different areas as also to various sections of the people. This indicates the inner of the Congress-NC coalition about the future things to come, he added. After the swearing-in-ceremony of the Omar led coalition Ministry, Prof. Gupta pointed out that in the Ministry six ministers including the Chief Minister belong to Valley, three from Jammu and one from Ladakh, although out of the total polled votes in the elections, only about 16 lakhs were from Kashmir, over 21 lakhs were from Jammu and about one lakh from Ladakh region. It is a different matter that the issue of representation may be brushed aside by arguing that the Ministry is yet incomplete but the first impression casts shadows about the events to come, the BJP leader added. Strongly objecting to the statement of Omar Abdullah that the delimitation of Assembly Constituencies in the State is not on their priority list, Prof Gupta asserted that for the people of Jammu the issue is very important as it is linked with their political empowerment as they have been denied their due rights for the past over sixty years and their party would continue to strive for ending regional disparities and ensuring equal representation to various regions and sections of the people. Ridiculing the argument that the Coalition is not having 2/3rd majority, Prof Gupta said that their 11-member party in the Assembly is ready to extend their support to any move for paving the way for fresh delimitation. In addition to this, some other groups and members from Jammu would be ready for amending the constitutional hurdles which, of course, were the creation of the National Conference itself.
