| JSS for joint platform on statehood | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU DEC 6: Jammu Sangarsh Samiti (JSM) has regretted that the movement for separate state of Jammu has received a set back in the recently held state assembly elections, due to division among various outfits fighting for Jammu statehood. The Samiti has given a call to all the organizations advocating separate state of Jammu, to come on a single platform and wage a united fight for the achievement of the cause. In a meeting of Samiti held here today under the Chairmanship of its President Amarnath Gupta has said that the poor performance in the elections by the candidates fielded by various organizations advocating separate Jammu state, should teach us the lesson to fight vigorously on a single platform for mobilizing public opinion in favour of the cause, instead of jumping into the electoral arena prematurely and separately by different pro Jammu state groups. He also regretted that the unity achieved among the people of Jammu during two month long Amarnath Yatra land, has frittered away, as witnessed during the assembly elections. For this the samiti who instead of remaining impartial and working for maintaining the unity among various sections of Jammu people, aligned itself with a particular political organization, to improve the electoral gains of that party. Stating that political empowerment of Jammu region cannot be achieved under the present political setup of a single state of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, the samiti has observed that grudging over less representation in the state cabinet to the MLAs from Jammu elected on NC and Congress tickets is futile. In fact the continuous discrimination against Jammu region in all the fields is inherit in the present political setup of a single state of three distinct units of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh. No political empowerment of Jammu region can be possible under the present system. Gupta also disclosed that the samiti has been in touch with all o0ther groups fighting for Jammu statehood, for forming a united front and a single platform. The other who were present in the meeting included Vimal Gupta, R K Anand, Rishikash Prashar, Ramesh Gupta and Abhimanyu Mahajan.
