| Farooq may vacate Hazratbal constituency | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 06 -Will Farooq Abdullah vacate the Hazratbal or Sonawar seat after he had won from these two constituencies in the recent poll ?Indications are that Dr Farooq Abdullah may vacate the Hazratbal seat which he had won with a big margin of over 6,000 votes. Party sources said that Dr Abdullah had won the Sonawar seat by a margin of over 200 votes and he may not like the seat go to the PDP during the by election. The PDP candidate, Ghulam Qadir Pardesi had lost to Farooq Abdullah by a narrow margin. The sources said that Farooq's performance from Hazratbal constituency had convinced the party leadership that the National Conference candidate could win the by-election from Hazratbal more comfortably than from Sonawar. The National Conference, the party sources said, will try to persuade the Election Commission to announce the schedule for the by-election as early as possible so that the party, that shares power with the Congress, could get one more seat in the Assembly. The National Conference has won 28 seats but for practical purposes it has only 27 MLAs after Farooq won from two constituencies. In case Farooq Abdullah decided to contest the Lok Sabha election, the National Conference will field him from Srinagar constituency. In that case his success in getting elected to the Lok Sabha will leave both Sonawar and Hazratbal seats vacant. Indications are that the Election Commission may fix the schedule for the by-election along with the Lok Sabha poll as by that time it will be known whether Dr Abdullah will seek election to the Lok Sabha.
