Another son rises in J&K
3/7/2023 10:46:22 PM

Saddam Nabi Azad, son of former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, has already announced his arrival on the political scene of Jammu and Kashmir.
Another son has risen on the political arena of the Union Territory and he is all set to carry forward the legacy of his father.
According to the media reports the former Congress leader is looking for a safe seat for his son Saddam to contest his maiden elections whenever these are held in Jammu and Kashmir.
Saddam had campaigned with his father in the 2014 Lok Sabha election when Azad was a Congress candidate from the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat but he was not active in politics.
Now, he has joined the active politics and will have to work really hard to live upto the benchmarks that have been set by his father Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The Democratic Azad Progressive Party (DAPP) led by Ghulam Nabi Azad is a new entrant in the political arena of J&K but Azad’s track record and the good work he has done in the past are the plus points for the party.
The entry of Saddam into active politics seems to be an effort to strike a chord with the younger generation in Jammu and Kashmir. He has been directed by his father to reach out to far flung areas and get direct feedback from the people so that he has an idea about the issues and problems of the people.
Former Congress leaders who had joined Azad when he floated his party have left him and returned to Congress. Azad is now depending upon a few veteran leaders who are with him and the new young faces, who will be led by his son.
Azad jumping into J&K’s political fray with his own party has become a cause of worry for other political formations, including the Congress. Everyone is aware of the fact that Azad as a leader has a mass following in many areas of J&K and the Chenab Valley is his citadel. Ones who have left him are struggling to regain their lost constituencies, while Azad is getting a good response from the people. Ghulam Nabi Azad and his son Saddam are all set to head the DAPP campaign in Jammu and Kashmir.
