Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 6: If there is a General House meeting of the Jammu Municipal Corporation and it passes without ruckus, the venue and occasion are probably wrong. It was then not wrong today when over 60 elected members of the Corporation fired salvos for indifferent attitude of officers and targeted the Joint Commissioner for his alleged vindictive attitude.
As the General House meeting picked up, the members one after the other, asked the Mayor about his writ as they pointed out that all recommendations from the elected corporators are thrown to winds by officers. They were particularly aghast over the working style of Joint Commissioner JS Tandon.
Members of JMC said that while the Corporation has completely washed the hands off its responsibility of maintaining civic amenities no care is being taken about scavengers. They said that even the cremations grounds scavenging and other basic facilities are not being taken care of.
Corporators of different wards also showed their resentment over the slow pace of work by the municipality officers. In four hours general meeting majority of the corporators had complaint about the shortage of scavengers and harassment of poor kiosk runners. One of the Corporators said that whenever a Corporator raises a question of public importance he is put to harassment by the Municipality officers guided by vindictive attitude of JS Tandon.
He said that now they are making ferries in the house of corporators to measure the dimensions of their houses. All the corporators condemned such action of officers. In reply municipal officers said that they were directed by the vigilance department to measure the establishments of the people. Sitting among corporators one of the corporators said that then why municipality not measure the dimensions of the shops established near Jogi Gate. Mayor Kavinder Gupta speaking on the occasion assured the corporators that their demands will be looked into. He also assured corporator Gandhi Nagar that additional safai karamcharies will be provided to his respective areas.
