| College students boycott classes for ‘open choice’ | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 6 College students in the Jammu today welcomed the New Year by boycotting their classes and reiterating demand of open-choice even as the authorities have ruled out any relaxation in the examinations. The students miffed over the government's stand also 'ghero' N D Wani Director Colleges, Higher Education Department in the GGM Science College. He was forced to leave the college leaving his official car behind. As per reports, in the morning hours students of MAM College boycotted their classed under the leadership of some ABVP activists and in a shape of procession reached the GGM Science College where they were joined by the local mates. The students started sloganeering against the government and chanting "we want open choice", forcibly tried move towards N D Wani, Director Colleges who was in the college that time. The students surrounded the Director Colleges and refused to allow him to move out of the College. According to some of the eyewitnesses sensing trouble the Director Colleges managed to give a slip to the students by leaving his official vehicle abandoned in the College. Reports of similar kind of protest also came from Kathua where student after boycotting their classes disrupted the vehicular movement for some time. It is here pertinent to mention here that ABVP having strong hold on the College students in the Jammu district is demanding relaxation in the graduate/undergraduate exams on the peal that their syllabus have not completed because of the civil disturbances in the Jammu during the Amarnath land agitation but the authorities have refused to accept the demand.
