| Doda shivers with season’s first snowfall | | |
SHARIK NABI Doda, Jan 7: With the onset of winter season people here have pulled out their woolen clothes, heating appliances and furnaces (bukhari) for warming themselves. Doda has witnessed this seasons first snow fall leaving common people shivering and biting their teeth’s with cold. Markets which used to be hustle bustle with the crowd of people too had worn deserted look. The business has slow down with less merchandise. Jahangir Iqbal Batt, owner of a provisional store said that it is off season for the market because schools were closed and most of the people had migrated to warmer places for spending their winter vacations. Even sometime the shopper has to satisfy himself with few hundreds in their safe, added Jahangir. As schools were closed for winter vacations, the families prefer to spend their vacation outside of the town. But even in these off season days some business are flourishing with great pace of which selling of firewood is on the top. It is worth to mention that selling or cutting of fire wood is illegal and banned but on helm of forest guards it has become quite easy and profitable business with no investment. During winter season it is commonly seen that man having Ponies are carrying firewood are roaming through various streets and selling wood at high price. In this connection when M K Sharma, Chief Conservator Forest, Chenab Circle Doda was contacted he said that they had made check point at various points and are slapping fine on violators. Safia Begum, a housewife said that she give preference to firewood instead of lighting cooking gas or electric heater because it is cheap.
