Cluster University celebrates mother languages

JAMMU, Mar 16: Under the patronage of Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor Cluster University of Jammu, the department of Linguistics & Literature, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts along with the Department of Urdu, Govt. Maulana Azad Memorial College Jammu (Constituent college of Cluster University of Jammu) organized a one-day seminar and poetry recitation under Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav to generate awareness about mother languages and composite culture of India in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages by the kind intervention of Bharat Singh Manhas, the Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in sponsoring this program, held on16th March 2023 in the conference hall of Govt. Maulana Azad Memorial College Jammu.
Prof. Chander Shekhar (Dean, Engineering and Technology CLUJ) graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, and Dr. Shahnawaz Chaudhary (Editor cum Cultural officer, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu) as the special guest. Principal MAM College Prof. GS Rakwal presided over the function. Dr. Geetanjali A Rana (the Dean, Faculty of Arts CLUJ Jammu), Dr. Shahnaz Qadri (HoD, Urdu MAM College and co-ordinator of the program), Dr. Reena Salaria (HoD), Linguistics and Literature, CLUJ Jammu), Prof. Ruth K Mesahi (HoD), English MAM College Jammu), faculty and students from School of Humanities & Liberal Arts, and Govt MAM College were present.
The program commenced with welcome address by Dr. Geetanjali A Rana (the Dean, Faculty of Arts CLUJ Jammu) who introduced the theme of the program while welcoming the guests and the participants. To deliberate on the theme of the event - Importance and significance of Mother Tongue, four (4) resource persons made presentations. The seminar began with the presentation of Prof. Ruth K Mesahi (HoD, English MAM College Jammu) on the topic Influence of Indian Languages on English, Dr. Shahnaz Qadri (HoD, Urdu MAM College) spoke on the Urdu as the Mother Tongue, Dr. Reena Salaria (HoD, Linguistics and Literature, CLUJ Jammu) & Akanksha (Faculty, Linguistics and Literature) made a presentation on Linguistics: Importance and the Study; Dr. Farooq A Mir (Faculty, Linguistics and Literature) deliberated on the Importance and Vitality of Mother tongues. The presentations were followed by a session of poetry recitation which was enthusiastically participated by the students of the Cluster University of Jammu. The students recited poems in mother languages on the theme Composite Culture of India.
Dr. Shahnawaz Chaudhary (Editor cum Cultural officer, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu) interacted with the participants and spoke on the relevance of mother tongue and how they need to evolve keeping pace with the changing economic and technological scenario of present times. Prof. Chander Shekhar (Dean, Engineering and Technology CLUJ) appreciated the effort of the department to organise this relevant event and complimented the presenters on their in-depth knowledge and care for mother tongues. He further encouraged the students to work for the preservation, conservation, and promotion of mother tongues. The program concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Shahnaz Qadri (HoD, Urdu MAM College, and Co-ordinator of the program). Dr. Qadri expressed her gratitude towards the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor CLUJ for his all-time support in organising such activities. She thanked Shri Bharat Singh Manhas, Secretary J&K AACL for sponsoring and collaborating in such academic activities.
