MD Jal Shakti reviews progress of works under JJM in Rajouri

RAJOURI, Mar 16: The Mission Director, Dr. G.N Itoo reviewed the status of works under Jal Jeevan Mission during a meeting.
The meeting was informed that 293 JJM schemes have been approved in the district, of which 183 are for the Rajouri division and 110 are for the Nowshera division. It was also informed that the work on 172 schemes has been alloted and there are 62 schemes where work is in progress.
Additionally, 67941 out of the 133477 households in the district have been connected till date.
Taking stock of the progress on borewells, the meeting was informed that out of 227 borewells, the work on 174 have been allotted.
Regarding the forest clearance issues on JJM schemes, it was informed that there are 177 schemes out of 293 that involve forest issues on JJM schemes. In order to avoid delays in the execution on the ground, the Mission Director asked the concerned officers to take up the issues with the Forest Department and get the same resolved at the earliest.
Inquiring about the status of the WQMS (Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance), it was informed that there is one district-level lab and four sub-divisional labs. This year, 9764 tests have been taken in total.
While addressing the meeting, the Mission Director urged all stakeholders to speed up their efforts in order to achieve the mission's goal. He also suggested certain measures that need to be taken in order to ensure proper implementation of the schemes and their successful completion.
The Mission Director mentioned that focus should be given on ensuring quality work, timely completion of projects and proper supervision of the same. He also emphasized on the need to keep a close watch on the proper use and maintenance of water supply systems.
During the meeting, he recommended the monitoring of water quality at the grassroot level by way of capacity building of the local community. He laid stress on using techniques like Critical Path Method (CPM) and Resource Management System for better control and understanding of the priority areas and discerning the way forward to complete each work on time.
The Mission Director also directed the concerned officials to enhance the transparency and effectiveness in monitoring of the works including functioning of NGOs empanelled as Implementation Support Agencies (ISAs). These ISAs are working across villages and helping in capacity building of Gram panchayats, Pani Samities and perform other support activities.
