JAMMU, JANUARY 07- Governor, Mr N N Vohra, has appointed Choudhry Mohammad Aslam as Speaker Pro-tem of the State Legislative Assembly in terms of section 59 (1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution .
According to a Raj Bhavan Spokesperson, the Governor, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under section 64 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, appointed Choudhry Mohammed Aslam, MLA, to be the person before whom the members elected to the Legislative Assembly may make and subscribe the oath or affirmation set out for the purpose in the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution.
The Spokesman said that the office of the Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, had fallen vacant due to the resignation tendered by Mr Tara Chand, on 5 January, 2009 afternoon.
