| NSUI debates open choice | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU JAN: 8 National Students Union of India (NUSI) organized a seminar on the issue of Open Choice in the forthcoming exams of Jammu University and its affiliated colleges, here today. In the seminar, besides NSUI activists, representatives of Students organization including NCSU, JSSM, JURSEA and representatives from various colleges which include GGM Science College SPMR College of Commerce, MAM College, GCW Prade, GCW Gandhi Nagar, K.C. Law College, Dogra Law College, GCET,MIET, Govt. Medical College Jammu and also from various departments of Jammu University participated. The main motive of organizing the session is to provide platform for students to evolve a common consensus and to discuss pros and cons of the issue and to session of seminar. During the seminar three representative sessions were held. In the first session 20 speaker, representing various colleges, Jammu University and from various students’ organization put forth their view about the issue of open choice e and its various aspects. Some of the participants advocated for reduction of syllabi by arguing that the question paper must contain the syllabus which has been taught by teacher. While some other supported the postponement of examination by quoting the logic that the syllabus must be covered. So that students could learn the whole syllabus and said that open choice will be an obstacle in the learning process of institution. Many of the speakers were of the view that keeping in view of his time period of their session. Open choice is a only a solution to save the interest of students community. It was also observed that under U.G.C norms a session must run for a definite period which is not possible in the present scenario. During the second session, an open choice house discussion took place. All the participants expressed their view and arguments in favor and against of open choice. During the final session, keeping in view the majority of arguments and analyzing all the aspects of various options, it was decided that it is right rime to grant the open choice to save the rights of student’s community. However the open choice should be the internal and parallel style from the syllabi. In the end of seminar a resolution was passed in which all the participants condemned the recent lathi charge on students and warned the authorities not to go for any such misadventure but immediately initiate fresh round of talks with students to reach at an early solution of issue.
