Equal Partners

Self Help Groups are playing an important role in women empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir. Many steps have been taken to help women entrepreneurs to scale up their business and opportunities are being provided to them to take their products to the international markets.
According to the official figures there are around 6.27 lakh women associated with more than 78,000 SHGs in J&K.
Women have transformed the rural economy, creating jobs and some have also expanded their businesses manifold.
The SHG members are leading the socio-economic changes taking place in the Union Territory.
Women have become equal partners in J&K’s development journey and are sharing equal responsibilities with men. They are working in every field to carry forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to build “Atamnirbhar Bharat.”
During the past few years the government besides providing opportunities from urban areas has opened up new avenues for the rural women to earn their livelihoods. They are being trained and provided with the financial assistance for their entrepreneurial journey.
As of date women in Jammu and Kashmir are shining in every field and the Self Help Groups (SHGs) have brought opportunities at their door steps.
Women have understood that they are no less than men and can contribute in every sphere of life. They are attaining self-sufficiency in every field and are marching ahead.
They are being provided equal opportunities in every field, including the government sector. Their rights are being safeguarded to ensure that they don’t fall prey to the acts of domestic violence. Women are giving a tough competition to men in every field and are proving their mettle.
The flagship programmes and schemes of the government have helped the women to uplift their standards of living. It is being ensured that the women entrepreneurs in urban, rural and remote areas get all the financial assistance and necessary handholding in packaging, branding, licensing, and marketing skills.
Women empowerment has helped in making the J&K’s economy vibrant. At present women are running successful business units and are taking part in every activity that was only the domain of men just a few years ago.
The generation-next of Jammu and Kashmir is all set to scale new heights and set an example for the world as the women of this land have become inspiration for their counterparts across the globe.
